We were event managing the USNZ Partnership Forum in Christchurch and were part of the delegation still on site at the AMI Stadium on the day that the devastating earthquake struck, 23 February. The evacuation from the stadium was carried out with professionalism and authority. Brian was our main point of contact and he took charge of the situation with a real sense of calm and authority. He showed amazing leadership to not only his own team but to our delegates and event teams.

We were frightened and looking for answers. Brian parked his car for easy visibility, provided initial first aid as required, turned on the radio and gave regular updates as news came to hand. He was approachable and never stopped looking for options to get us to a safer place. We pleaded with the Red Badge team to leave and check on their families and we would manage ‘our delegates’. But, of course, that was never an option for Brian and the team. Their sense of duty is totally commendable
