As a casual Event and Security team member, you’ll be:

Providing great customer service by greeting everyone and scanning tickets
Maintaining a secure environment by conducting security screens including bag checks and scans
Helping patrons find their way in the venue by finding their seats and locating other amenities
Assisting with crowd and vehicle control
Keeping event attendees safe and secure

"My name is Ringi John, I’m a security officer for the Earthquake Commission in Wellington.

I was told about security work by a friend in Australia. I followed this up and began my security career with Group 4 security based in Wellington. Security is my life; I am grateful for it. It has enhanced my life by having a greater awareness, it keeps me in the zone and keeps me alert, sharp. The protection of assets and people is important to me.

Before working for Red Badge, I worked for the Japanese Embassy with October Security – ironically, it’s the same building where I am now! I feel that communication is good with Red Badge; it’s important. The client is very happy with how I fit in here at the EQC.

In my spare time, I train people of all walks of life in Wing Chun, which is Karate. I am a black belt and currently ranked 3rd dan (the highest is 10 dan). I was also a New Zealand rugby tag player and represented New Zealand in Australia.

"My name is Caitlin Eeles, and I'm one of the event staff with Red Badge.

When I'm not working with Red Badge, I also work in the film industry in the safety department as well as being a volunteer with St John. I enjoy spending time with my family, friends, and attending band practices.

Helping people and ensuring everyone gets home safely brings me immense joy. Despite all the fun I have during my shifts, I also cherish relaxing at home, indulging in a good episode of Bridgerton or reading a good book with a cup of tea.

Before joining Red Badge, I worked at McDonald's and finished college. I had the opportunity to take the Red Badge Gateway course through One Tree Hill College, which turned out to be a fantastic decision. It made my senior year at college much easier and paved the way for me to land a great job with Red Badge.

I've ways been a hard worker. I strive to do each task better than the last time and always welcome new challenges. Funny moments are abundant during my time on the job with Red Badge. Any shift becomes hilarious when you're with the right people. It makes the day more enjoyable, even if we're working in pouring rain.

A defining moment during my time at Red Badge was getting the opportunity to talk to some of the guards about how they are doing in life, what they have achieved, and what they have learnt at Red Badge. By talking with them it really inspired me to do something important, not just for the company, but so that one day, I could be an example for someone else who might be unsure about their life goals."

"My name is Abhi and I have been with Red Badge since 2019. I was studying at Uni and Red Badge did an expo which is where I signed up and that’s how I got started.

I chose Red Badge because it provided me with an opportunity to work in the events industry and other areas which helped me upskill and give me work experience. Also the company environment is very friendly, you are supported and get to be acquainted with different people of all backgrounds and cultures.

Gradually over time, I have shifted towards guarding work in the retail industry, and I am glad to be working at Westfield Albany. Often, the role might be confused for just a standard sort of role but there’s so much more to it. I have dealt with every possible day to day scenario and incidents whether it’s a medical emergency, lost children, disputes and much more. By saying that, it has helped me to build a good set of skills including being diligent, being at the top of my customer service abilities, and being smart and rational in my decision making. I believe culture plays a crucial role in my work industry as my culture has taught me the important values which helps being better at work.

Outside of work I like to focus on physical health and fitness, self improvement, sports and snowboarding. My biggest goal in life one day is to be a business owner, particularly in the fitness industry. "My name is David Cooke, and I work as a security guard with Red Badge. In my 40s, I am someone who believes in working hard to achieve the goals I set for myself.

Before joining Red Badge, I worked as a teacher, which I believe has greatly influenced the way I work now. My experience in teaching has allowed me to communicate directly and positively with people. Its been also quite rewarding being able to speak to some of my former students whilst on the job at Red Badge.

I decided to get into the security industry because I've always been interested in security and helping people. I wanted to resolve issues and strive for a safer environment. Tell me more about the Certificate of Approval (COA)
Sure! A Certificate of Approval (COA) is a licence granted by the Ministry of Justice. It allows you to take on more qualified roles such as crowd controller, property guard, personal guard, security technician, consultant and more.

At Red Badge, we encourage and support casual staff to get their COA. You’ll pay off the cost of the COA first, then Red Badge will help you apply for your Blue COA licence. We’ll also train you up to get your Green COA licence in three months.

A Green COA licence unlocks more opportunities and is a requirement for security work in New Zealand.
Do I need any experience?
Ideally you will have experience in a customer facing role like hospitality or retail, in event security, or a related field but this not a requirement as we will provide training. More importantly, you’ll have great people and communication skills – you’ll love interacting with a diverse range of individuals in a positive and professional manner.

This is a physical position which may see you standing and walking for extended periods, so you will need to have a good level of fitness to accommodate.

You need to be eligible to work in New Zealand and you will be subject to a security check.
